Sam C. Charlson purchased the Spilman Abstract Company in 1927 and the present company has existed since that time. Mr. Charlson was a graduate of the University of Iowa and attended the University of Iowa School of Law. J. Robert Wilson purchased the company in 1947 and operated the company as Charlson and Wilson Bonded Abstracters, Inc. until his retirement in 1981. Mr. Wilson obtained his undergraduate and law degrees from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
Roy H. Worthington joined the company in 1974 following his graduation from Washburn University School of Law. Mr. Worthington purchased the company from J. Robert Wilson when he retired in 1981. S. Lee Meigs joined the company in 1982 following her graduation from the University of Kansas School of Law and later became a shareholder in the company. She served as President from 2012, until her retirement in 2018. Todd A. Sheppard joined the company in 1993 following his graduation from the University of Kansas School of Law and is now the President and a shareholder in the company. Callie A. Marks joined the company in 2012, is also a shareholder, and currently serves as Executive Vice President. She graduated from Washburn Law School in 1997. Zachary C. Sheppard graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2016, and joined the company full time in 2017. He currently serves as Senior Vice President and is a shareholder.
The company, which is independently owned and operated, has the only title plant in Riley County dating back to 1854 and offers a full range of abstracting, title and ownership reports, title insurance and escrow/settlement services. Charlson & Wilson is a member of the American Land Title Association & the Kansas Land Title Association.
In 2015, Charlson and Wilson Bonded Abstracters, Inc. purchased the assets of Pottawatomie County Abstract Company and now owns and operates that office . The Pottawatomie County office is located in Westmoreland across the street from the Pottawatomie County Court House .
